mondegreens (n): mishearings or misinterpretations of misunderstood words
The beginning of the chorus in Dobie Gray's song, "Drift Away," is a famous mondegreen. Until I Googled it, I thought the lyrics were "Give me the beach boys, and free my soul." They are actually, "Give me the beat, boys, and free my soul."
